Here is the rubric for the final speech. I want to be impressed. Use this opportunity to do the best work of the semester. I know there is a lot going on in your lives during the next couple of weeks, so budget your time wisely. This assignment deliberately doesn’t have the usual checklist guidance. You are all beyond that now and know what to do and how to do it. I want you to be so good that you surprise yourselves. I know you can do it.

Here is the line up for speeches:

Wednesday 9 May:  John, Amanda, Erica, Cody

Friday 11 May:  Danielle, Nicole, Amy, Samantha

Monday 14 May:  Caitlin, Vinny, Monica

That leaves us 16 May for contingencies.

Here is an example of a speech that went wrong in a very public way. What could the speaker have done to prevent the embarrassment?

You Get To Grade! March 26, 2007

By now, you should have a good idea of what goes into a good speech and be able to apply that knowledge to the speeches and presentations that you observe.  By 1 May, all students must create a rubric (it can be based upon the ones I use) and apply it to a speech or presentation that you have attended.  The assignment carries the weight of a speech, so do the same great job you have been.  Here is a preliminary list of possibilities, which I will update from time to time:

28 March-7:00 PM Seelig Theatre.    Womensview Series, Dr. Ruth Beitler, USMC at West Point on the war in the Middle East

29 March-2:30 PM B118.    Richard Mandelbaum, Building and Living in a straw bale house.

3 April-5:30 PM Seelig Theatre.    Melissa Everett, Sustainable Hudson Vally on climate change.  Trained by Al Gore.

5 April-2:30 PM B118.     Lorinda Hill, RCCC, Implementing a Recycling Program.

19 April-2:30 G121.    RISE, Sexual Health.

Hi, Guys:

We should meet on Friday so that I have an update on your progress.  I had to submit mid-term grades for you.  Since the projects aren’t finished and I no longer can use the pass-fail option, you all have “B” as a mid-term grade.  Obviously, this is a place holder grade and not indicative of your final.
